Data & Research Specialist

We are looking for a highly reliable and motivated individual to join our Data & Research team. The primary responsibility is to assist in the management of LobbyTools’ proprietary database, which is the foundation of our service. You will also be responsible for researching, collecting and organizing information and will be a part of our customer support team. This is a remote-first position, and candidates in all U.S. time zones will be considered.

In this role, you will:

  • Populate and manage the LobbyTools database
  • Research, collect and organize information from a variety of sources
  • Ensure the accuracy, completeness, and consistency of our data
  • Analyze and recommend improvements to our data collection, processing, and housing processes
  • Learn the ins and outs of the legislative process, budget process, and parliamentary procedure
  • Support our clients in their use of the LobbyTools system and provide a thoughtful customer service experience
  • Master the various software and systems used by our team, including Slack, Google Workspace, Sendgrid, AWS, and more
  • Help with ad hoc projects across all cross-functional, geographically diverse teams
  • Contribute to the overall product map for LobbyTools and affiliated programs
    • This position can be characterized as “behind the scenes,” as the primary duties are to support/assist our client base and keep them informed as they track legislative policy and enact their various goals.

      Necessary Qualifications

      • A meticulous attention to detail
      • Experience managing databases (or deep knowledge of database administration)
      • Ability to handle the fast and sometimes hectic pace of a legislative session
      • Ability to plan, manage and complete projects (solo or as part of a team)
      • A team-focused mentality; we believe a rising tide lifts all boats
      • Ability to work in a remote-first environment
      • A passion for learning and research
      • Enjoy a tech startup vibe in a well-established market leader
        • Additional ideal qualifications

          • Knowledge of user experience (UX) or user interface (UI) design
          • Experience with database warehouse management (SQL Server, SQL Replication, Azure SQL Database, Azure Data Warehouse, etc.)
          • Fluency in coding language(s) (Python, JavaScript, C#, PHP, C++, etc.)
          • Superior written communication skills
          • Experience interacting with or following Florida’s legislative or executive branch
          • Experience with project management, especially implementation activities like design, prototyping, development, configurations, and testing

          Qualifications note – we do not require a comprehensive knowledge of Florida state government or the legislative process.

          We strive to be transparent in our hiring process and compensation structure. All full-time positions have a guaranteed starting salary of $45,000 with additional compensation factored for professional experience.

          LobbyTools, Inc. is Florida's leading legislative news & information service headquartered in Tallahassee. Our service enables organizations in Florida's legislative process to track bills, statutes, and media reports.

          AM Data and Research Internship (8AM-12PM; 20 hours/week)

          Working with LobbyTools

          Primary duties include database management, information collection and organization, quality assurance practices, and calendar management. This is an excellent match for individuals interested in learning the ins and outs of Florida’s legislative process in a flexible, customer service-first environment.

          LobbyTools is a remote-first workplace. We anticipate a mostly remote working environment, with occasional in-office training. Hardware and software will be provided upon request, but interested candidates must have access to a reliable internet connection.

          We strive to be transparent in our hiring practices and compensation structure. Compensation for internship positions is $15/hour with the expectation of 20 hours of work per week. Internship engagement is guaranteed for 15 weeks, with opportunities for additional hours based on both intern availability and company need.
